Exodus 3:13-15; Psalm 9:10; Philippians 2:9-11
Elohim as Creator (Gen. 1:1), means "mighty one" (a plural noun followed by a singular verb). The word is also used for false gods.
El-Shaddai means "God Almighty (Ex. 6:3; Gen. 17:1), also the all-sufficient one (Phil. 4:19).
I AM (Ex. 3:4-5, 13-15) is the Hebrew 'Ehyeh' (to be); hence, 'Adonai' and YHWH are derived.
Significance of YHWH:
> God exists.
> No reality exists behind/beyond God.
> God does NOT change (Malachi 3:6).
> God is amazing, everlasting, almighty Creator (Isaiah 40:28).
> Objectivity is crucial.
> It draws near to us in Jesus Christ (as the Lord, YaHWeH).
ABBA, only found in the New Testament (Gal. 4:6), has a sense of intimate personal relationship.
