The cross is the meeting point of God's justice versus man's injustice (1 Pet. 2:22).
God's character encompasses both justice (the throne) and mercy (rainbow) in the heavenly picture of Revelation 4:3. Mercy is kindness or favor shown to who is in an unlikely position to receive it. Mercy ministries around the world work to help the poor. God is a merciful God (Deut. 4:31; Neh. 9:31; Jonah 4:2; Dan. 9:18). King David had to rely on God's mercy in his last days (2 Sam. 24:14). A tax-collector was praying for and a blind man was begging for God's mercy (Luke 8:13, 38). God owes us nothing, but gives us everything.
