From Discipline to Delight: Finding Joy in God's Word

Psalm 1:1-4

As Christians we all want to be fruitful in Christ, and we know we need the discipline of studying the Bible as the key to our growth and fruitfulness. BUT we rarely delight in God's Word.
So how can we progress from the discipline?

# The Process from the opening verse:

• We are told not to Listen (walk in the counsel of the wicked), Engage ( stand in the way of sinners), and Belong to the wrong company (sit in the seat of mockers).
  
• We are to Listen, Follow and Belong to Jesus, to bridge the gap between Discipline and Delight.
  
• Jesus calls to decide to follow Him and there is no middle ground (Luke 16:3).
  

# Two Words from verse 2:

• Delight in the law of the Lord is a matter of attitude. Discipline is not sufficient. Discipline is about us; Delight in God is about God, not me. If our desire is corrupted we desire for evil. Our sinful desire should be replaced with a holy desire, and our heart must be transformed.
  
• Meditate on the law day and night. It means to reflect, to ponder, to apply, to make connections (like a tree rooted on to a stream), is like appreciating a painting or sunset.
  
• The wicked are like chaff (not remain or rooted). (v.4
  

# From Discipline to Delight:

• Understand our identity in Christ (Ephesians 1:3-14).
  
• Live out our identity in Christ - obediently by faith (2 Corinthians 4:6).
  
• We can experience Delight that comes from fellowship with God.
